China Mobile Beijing’s website, running the “something worth waiting for” slogan showed a glimpse of the iPhone 5S in all three colors and invited potential customers to preorder the smartphone running on a speedier 4G network.
More than 10,000 people have already signed up, according to the company’s online portal.
A China Mobile spokeswoman declined to comment when asked when China Mobile would start offering iPhones.
The latest iPhone advertisement came days after the company’s Shanghai unit placed a similar ad.
An official at China Mobile Suzhou also confirmed that the unit has been taking online preorders for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
China Mobile is likely to officially announce the iPhone deal around Dec. 18 when the company unveils a new brand for its mobile services at a 4G global partner conference in Guangzhou.
China Mobile, which has been operating a less popular homegrown 3G mobile technology, has reported a decline in profit margins amid intensifying competition from smaller rivals China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd.0762.HK +1.38% and China Telecom Corp.CHA +0.82%
Using more common 3G technology, China Unicom has been offering iPhones since 2009 and China Telecom began selling iPhones in 2012.
But China Mobile is expected to get a headstart in offering 4G services as China Unicom and China Telecom are still building their high-speed networks.
