Obama vetoes attempted ban of selected Apple products

President Obama has vetoed a proposed ban on the sale of selected Apple products in the United States including the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2
Obama has issued a veto against an attempted ban on selected Apple products following a ruling made back in June by the USITC that granted Samsung the right to ban imports of older iPhones and iPads.
According to the previous ruling, Apple infringed on a patent related to 3G standards on the AT&T's and T-Mobile's iPhone 4 and AT&T's iPad 2, plus any previous models.
The ruling could have seen all the infringing Apple products banned from sale in the US but a letter from the U.S Government states, "After extensive consultations with the agencies of the Trade Policy Staff Committee and the Trade Policy Review Group... I have decided to disapprove the USITC's determination to issue an exclusion order and cease and desist order in this investigation," AllThingsD reports.
The veto marks the first ruling by the presidential administration on a product case since 1987.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple argued that the ban was inapproriate because Samsung had committed to license its patented technologies that were included in industrywide standards for wireless devices.
Samsung and Apple have been in heated rivalry with trips to court such as last year's battle which saw Apple win a jury trial and $1 billion in damages against Samsung.
This month saw the announcement that Apple and Samsung account for 103% of all profit within the smartphone industry.
